First storm even before the season: Anna

The first storm even before the season , Anna, formed and drifted east, away from Bermuda, on Tuesday in the Atlantic Ocean, posing no threat to land, forecasters said. Ana was centered about 375 miles southeast of Bermuda. It had maximum sustained winds of about 40 mph, just above the 39 mph threshold to be considered a subtropical storm. The only effect on the U.S. mainland was large northeast swells along the mid-Atlantic and southeast coastal waters.
