Mexicans Extol Operation Miracle
Havana, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) A group of 66 Mexican Maya indigenous returned from Venezuela where they underwent eye surgery as part of Operation Miracle, a humanitarian program in cooperation with Cuba.
Operation Miracle began in 2004 as a joint project of Presidents Hugo Chavez (Venezuela) and Fidel Castro (Cuba). So far it has benefited more than 250,000 people from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Upon arriving in Chetumal, capital of Quintana Roo, the Mayans voiced satisfaction with the medical service and attention they received.
The initiative aims to meet UN Millennium Goals and forms a part of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA).
Port Felipe Carrillo Mayor Eliseo Bahena accompanied the patients and mentioned that he signed brotherhood agreements to help social projects to benefit the poor of Quintana Roo.
