The free veterinary clinic is scheduled in Mahahual on January 16-18 and in Xcalak on January 13-15 and January 16-18 in Mahahual. The clinic is sponsored by the humane society of Mexico.

Xcalak 107th Aniversary - history

Xcalak is celebrating it´s 107th Aniversary this year.

The history of Xcalak dates back to pre-Hispanic times. In the 16th Century, English pirates took over a large part of the coast and attacked Spanish ships that transported gold and riches back to Spain. Spain tried to defend its interests by constructing forts such as the one at Bacalar. Pirates continued to devastate the region. On June 2nd / June 3rd 2007 Xcalak has celebrated its 107th Aniversary with several sports events.

The following activities were held at Xcalak;

Football match between San Pedro, Sarteneja, Majahual and Xcalak, Artistic cultural event, Music performance, Softball with San Pedro versus Majahual, Ladies volleyball with San pedro versus Xcalak.

Restaurant Xcalak Caribe opens

Xcalak Caribe has been re-opened by Yamira. Yamira is known for the great cooking and atmosphere at Tierra Maya in the past. Xcalak caribe is located on the waterfront just south of the in-town pier. Yamira serves the best fish ceviche, shrimp and lobster tacos. Also the hamburgers are delicious.

Bridge beach road 13 km's north of Xcalak burns out

The bridge in the beach road which is approx 13 km's north of Xcalak burned out. The bridge is just north of the road that leads from the beach road to the main road. Hotels like Playa Sonrisa, Sandwood villas, Sin Dudas and La Guacamaya can still be easily reached from Xcalak.

Leaky Palapa opens doors

The Leaky Palapa (previously Conchitas) has just been opened by Marla and Linda. They are open from 11:00AM to 9:00PM serving both lunch and dinner Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
